UTTLAU GOLF COURSE

A heavenly peace and quiet surrounds the hills of the small village of Uttlau near Bad Griesbach. 18 holes set in a magical landscape and a great place to play golf. The Uttlau Golf Course brings together all the charms of golf at a single location. The views are magnificent. Architect Kurt Rossknecht did not need a recipe when he came to construct the course. Everything he required was already in place and merely had to be refined. If he had consulted a cookbook, however, the instructions would have read "take a piece of flat land, a few hills (not too high but providing attractive views of the surrounding countryside) add a touch of water and garnish the dish with fruit trees and a village in the middle". The result was the 18-hole Uttlau Golf Course, the fairways of which wend their way around the small village of the same name. Golfers enjoy views of the Uttlau Estate throughout their round, the attractive inner courtyard of which provides the ideal venue for cosy post-match celebrations.

18 varied holes need to be mastered, however, before we adjourn to the 19th. The course's main design focus is on a sporting and fair challenge. Although the holes are flat, the course also features a perfect combination of rising fairways and water hazards and requires long shots into the valley. The large greens make considerable demands on a golfer's putting talents and are also a characteristic feature of the Uttlau. Enjoy the attractive views over the gently rolling landscape but do not forget to make your pars. At the Par 5 12th, for example, you tee off from the highest point of the course and will need to send your drive far down into the plain. The 18th (another interesting par 5) takes you directly back into the village of Uttlau to enjoy views of the church and cemetery on the way to the Uttlau Estate. By which time you will have realised why this part of the region is lovingly referred to as the "Bavarian Tuscany".
